Feature New York Jets’ Keys to Victory vs. Cleveland Browns by Staff Post September 10, 2015 Chris Ivory (Joe Camporeale – USA Today Sports Images) It has been a long offseason for the Jets. It’s been filled with a few firings, a new head coach, and general manager, and a huge improvement in talent. It is time however to put all of that behind us and focus on the regular season. In my previous article, I explained why the Jets will win nine games this season, but for that to happen, they need to win the games that they are supposed to win. This is one of those games. So for the Jets to win this Sunday, here are three keys to victory. Stop the Run – The Browns aren’t going to beat many teams by passing the ball. Josh McCown is not going to light up many defenses, especially not the Jets’ defense. So the Browns are going to run the ball more often than not. The Browns also have a pretty good offensive line but to counter that, the Jets have a really good defensive line. It will be difficult for Isaiah Crowell to run the ball effectively throughout the game. The defense simply can’t let it happen. Run the Ball Effectively – The Jets’ game plan is actually similar – run the football. Chris Ivory and Zac Stacey will have to have good games to give the Jets scoring opportunities. This team reminds me a lot of the teams Mark Sanchez played for in his first two seasons with the Jets. It should be the same concept, which is stick to the run, and pass when necessary. Fitzpatrick – Ryan Fitzpatrick just has to be a game manager. Stick with short passes and only throw when necessary. Don’t throw the ball deep because that is going to lead to turnovers. He has weapons to throw the ball, but he shouldn’t go crazy with the pass. And since the defense is really good, Fitzpatrick doesn’t have to put up 30+ points on the scoreboard. Sunday’s game should be a low scoring affair so if the offense puts up close to 20 points, then I think that will be enough for a victory. And just as a side thought, if the defense is able to produce a turnover or two to give the offense good field position, then that will just make Fitzpatrick’s life easier. Here’s my official prediction for the Jets game on Sunday: Jets win by a score of 20-10.
