Soccer New York Red Bulls Sign Daniel Royer by Pardeep Cattry August 3, 2016 (Photo by Catalina Fragoso – Double G Media) The New York Red Bulls, hours before the transfer deadline closes for the season, have completed the signing of midfielder Daniel Royer. The 26-year-old was signed from FC Midtjylland of the Danish Superliga, a club he joined last year. In the one season Royer spent with the Danish club, he scored two goals and recorded three assists in the 36 matches he played across all competitions. The midfielder has also been capped by the Austrian national team six times since making his debut in 2011. Royer adds depth to an already deep Red Bulls midfield. Playing primarily as a winger, he will compete with the likes of Alex Muyl, who is currently the Red Bulls’ first choice on the right wing. The Austrian can be seen as a replacement for Lloyd Sam, who was dealt to DC United early last month. Speaking to the Red Bulls’ website, head coach Jesse Marsch was very complimentary about the new addition. “From the times that I’ve spoken to him, you can tell he’s a really smart player, really smart guy, has a good mentality and is excited about this challenge,” he said, before adding that he expects Royer’s transition into the squad to be “seamless.” Royer will be available once his ITC and P-1 visa have been approved.
