New York Yankees First Baseman Mark Teixeira Returns to Lineup in Win

MLB: Cleveland Indians at New York YankeesNew York Yankees’ first baseman Mark Teixeira returned to the lineup on Saturday in the six spot in the lineup after being activated from the 15-day disabled list with torn cartilage in his knee.

Teixeira was 0-for-3 with a walk, and was not sure how his knee would hold up.

“I don’t really know, honestly,” Teixeira said when asked about the key to keeping the knee healthy. “We don’t know really what to expect. We’re gonna do a couple more shots over the All-Star break, and if we need another round at the end of the season, we can. It’s really just trying to keep it from locking up, like I’ve been saying all along.”

Teixeria is now batting .176 with the Yankees and has only eight extra-base hits in 49 games. He has also dealt with neck issues and has had trouble staying on the field.

“These last three weeks have really helped my neck calm down, which hopefully is gonna be a good thing for the rest of the season and I won’t have any more incidents, because that’s a tough thing to deal with,” he said. “But hopefully all these injuries are behind me and I can have a productive second half of the season.”

The Yankees went on to win the game 2-1 and are now 37-36 on the season.
