Baseball New York Yankees’ Getting Production from Unexpected Since the All-star break Gregorius is hitting .327 by Staff Post September 3, 2015 Didi Gregorius (Getty Images) Coming into the 2015 season the New York Yankees were filled with question marks. Fans and experts asked the same questions: Can Carlos Beltran still play? Is Didi Gregorius really a good fit? Why in the world do they still have Stephen Drew? The list goes on and on, but finally in the recent weeks the Yankees are getting answers. Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran came into 2015 with something to prove to Yankees fans, the fact that he could still play. After an awful 2014 campaign Beltran has responded to the critics as he is hitting .282 with 13 home runs and 48 runs batted in. Since the All-Star break the 38-year old has been tearing up the league. Beltran is batting .325 since the All-Star break this season and hit .353 with a 1.067 OPS for the Yankees in August. Just when it appeared he was on his way out, Beltran revisited his youth and is easily the Yankees most consistent hitter. Beltran has come up with big hit after big hit, and is playing to the back of his baseball card. Without Beltran as an everyday player, the Yankees would not be in playoff contention. The Yankees also have a middle infield of Gregorius and Drew who are currently red hot. This past week Drew is batting .333 with six hits and six runs batted in, while Gregorius since the All-star break is hitting .327 with an OPS of .747. The Yankees need there middle infield to produce like this for the rest of the year and into October if they want to make a run. Gregorius is also ranked sixth among shortstops in WAR with a 2.2 according to Fan Graphs. It finally seems that the Yankees are putting a full product on the field for the first time this year.
