According to reports, following a New York Yankees 7-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night, the Yankees called up catcher Gary Sanchez from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre.

The news was originally reported by Shane Hennigan, the Railriders beat writer. The call up will be Sanchez’s second career trip to the majors. The 23-year old currently has no hits in just two at bats in the majors.

Sanchez is batting .280 with five homers in Triple-A this season. Over his last 10 games, Sanchez has been on a tear hitting .364 with 16 hits, three home runs and 10 RBI.

Sanchez is the third ranked prospect in the Yankees organization and a name most people thought would make the roster out of spring training, but the Yankees opted to go with Austin Romine instead.

Sanchez is in his seventh year with the Yankees organization and will be looking for his first MLB hit.

Sanchez, a right handed bat, will be crucial against the Chicago White Sox this weekend as the Yankees will see two straight lefties in Chris Sale and Jose Quintana on Friday and Saturday.

The Yankees have won five of their last seven games and have won three consecutive home series.
