Feature NFC Championship; Niners ride Mostert to Super Bowl LIV berth by Chris Passarelli January 20, 2020 The San Francisco 49ers must have been watching Tennessee Titans highlights, because they took the old Titans gameplan and executed it to perfection against an overmatched Green Bay Packers squad. Aaron Rodgers looked mortal next to the ferocious pass rush of the 49ers. The Niners used Raheem Mostert to punch their ticket to Super Bowl LIV. That’s it. He was their entire offense, scoring four touchdowns and rushing 29 times for 220 yards. Jimmy Garoppolo threw for the least amount of times in NFC Championship history, going 6-for-8 for 77 yards. Jimmy G threw two times in the second half. It was almost unfathomable how dominant the 49ers were to start the game. Tevin Coleman went down with a shoulder injury, but Mostert picked up the slack and didn’t really let the Packers get anything done. The 49ers scored in the following ways in the first half; Raheem Mostert touchdown, Robbie Gould field goal, Raheem Mostert touchdown, Robbie Gould field goal, Raheem Mostert touchdown. By the time the Packers figured out what was going on the combination of Gould and Mostert dropped 27 points on them. The Packers had some fight in them come the second half, as Aaron Rodgers was able to hit Aaron Jones for a nine yard touchdown pass. However, the game never felt in reach and it was essentially put out of reach when Mostert scored his fourth touchdown of the game, a 22 yard run. The Packers came roaring back in the fourth quarter but it was too little, too late. Aaron Jones scored a fourth quarter touchdown on the ground and Rodgers hit Jace Sternberger for an 8 yard touchdown. Things looked to be turning around for the Pack, but the Niners recovered a late onside kick, kicked a field goal and called it a game. Aaron Rodgers may have went 31-for-39 with 326 yards and two touchdowns, but he also fumbled the ball three times, lost one and threw two interceptions. His numbers look a lot better than what they actually were, as most of his damage came once the game was already out of reach. The 49ers did exactly what they needed to do; They kept the ball out of Aaron Rodgers’ hands and when they were in his hands they sacked him three times, forced multiple fumbles and had him turn the ball over three times. Kyle Shannahan’s team ran through Raheem Mostert and they rode him all the way to an NFC Championship victory. Up next is the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.
