NFL Owners vote unanimously on playoff expansion from 14 to 16 teams

Commissioner Roger Goodell announces Tuesday that owners unanimously approve playoff expansions from 14 to 16 teams.

The changes will occur if “meaningful games are canceled” due to the coronavirus, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported. Only two games this season has been canceled due to the virus (Pittsburgh at Tennessee and New England at Kansas City) and those games have already been made up.

Pelissero previously provided the full playoff proposal plan.

The league is continuously seeing players affected by the coronavirus and many players being placed on reserve/COVID-19 list as “high-risk”. Games can continue to be impacted, however the league is continuing to make strides.
