Other Sports Ninth Inning Homer Silences Thunder by Staff Post May 15, 2011 In front of a large hometown crowd of 6,334 the Trenton Thunder (19-17) lost a rare home game to the Binghamton Mets (13-20) 3-2 last night. A two-run homerun in the top of the ninth inning spoiled a strong pitching debut by Carlos Silva. Former Major Leaguer Carlos Siva making his first start for the Thunder and only his third start in the Yankee organization since signing early last month. Silva was strong through six innings only giving up one unearned run and three hits while on the hill. Binghamton the Mets double-A affiliate grabbed the early lead in the first inning on a Corban Joseph error allowing a Binghamton run to score. The Thunder would reply in kind in the third inning with a leadoff double by Jose Pirela and a two out single by Addison Maruszak. In the fifth inning Ray Kruml launched his first homerun of the season to right field to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead that they carried into the ninth inning. (RHP) Pat Venditte started the the seventh inning for the Thunder and held the fort for a 1 2/3 innings until (RHP) Jason Schimdt got the call to close out the game. Schimdt was tagged with the loss. Thunder Claps The Thunder have seven of the top 30 listed in Baseball America’s Prospect America Handbook. Betances (2), Banuelos (3),Romine (6), Stoneburner(17), Mesa (19), Joseph (20) and Venditte(30). The Thunder have won 14 out of their first twenty games and not lost a series at Waterfront Park this season.
