NJ Devils Bring Back Sergey Kalinin

The New Jersey Devils signed Sergey Kalinin to a one-year, 800,000-dollar contract on Wednesday.

In his first season with the Devils, this past year, he scored eight goals and seven assists in 78 games. The 25-year-old center from Omsk, Russia added three assists in 10 games, for Team Russia, during the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship, helping to lead them to a bronze medal.

After five seasons with Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League, Kalinin was signed by New Jersey as a free agent prior to the start of the 2015-2016 National Hockey League season.

The signing of Kalinin follows a list of free agent acquistions by the organization. The team recently brought back Jacob Josefson, Jon Merrill and Devante Smith-Pelly as well as added Beau Bennett, Ben Lovejoy and Luke Gazdig to their lineup.

The Devils continue have negotiations with Kyle Palmieri, who on Tuesday filed for salary arbitration as well as Reed Boucher. The team also made a blockbuster trade during the offseason, acquiring Taylor Hall from the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Adam Larsson.
