College NJAC Softball Tournament First Round Recap by Gregg Snyder May 2, 2018 The New Jersey Athletic Conference softball tournament got underway Tuesday at campus sites across the state. The double-elimination tournament now moves on to Montclair State University for games Friday through the weekend. Namit remains undefeated for The College of New Jersey Freshman Alanna Namit improved to 15-0 on the season after throwing a complete game, allowing one run on fours hits and striking out six. Shortstop Megan Mayernik and outfielder Allie Immerso recorded two hits apiece in the 6-1 Lions win. TCNJ scored two in the first, three in the third, and one more in the sixth. William Paterson’s lone run came in the fourth. NJAC-wins leader, freshman Sarah Byrnes (16-6), suffered the loss. She worked a complete game, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight singles. The Pioneers will face fifth-seeded No. 2 seed Rowan in an elimination game Friday, May 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Montclair State. TCNJ will play No. 4 seed Rutgers-Camden at 4:00 p.m. Stockton upsets No. 2 Rowan It seemed as though Rowan was set to advance in the winners bracket, needing just three outs to complete the victory. No. 5 seeded Stockton had other plans however. The Ospreys scored three runs in the top of the seventh, erasing a 2-1 deficit and leaving with a 4-2 victory over the Profs. Pinch-hitter Megan Katzmar played the role of hero on Tuesday as she drilled a two-run single that plated the tying and go-ahead runs. Victoria Torp got the victory in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings. Hannah Bibeault started and went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits. The loss was charged to Rowan’s Jesse DeDomenico who went six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits. Stockton advances to play No. 3 seed Ramapo on Friday, May 4, at 6:00 p.m. at Montclair State. Rowan will play No. 6 seed William Paterson at 2:00 p.m. in an elimination game. No. 3 Ramapo and No. 4 Kean need extras as Roadrunners come out on top Sophomore Jackie Howarth drove home the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Ramapo Roadrunners a 5-4 victory over No. 4 seed Kean. Ramapo starting pitcher Christina Brizek worked the first 3.2 innings earning the no-decision. She struck out one, walked one and surrendered six hits and three runs. Senior Katrina Buczkowski registered the win and improved to 11-2 after tossing the final 5.1 innings. Jackie Riley dropped to 10-6 after the complete game loss for Kean. Kean will try to avoid elimination when they play No. 1 seed TCNJ on Friday, May 4, at 4:00 p.m. at Montclair State. Ramapo will play No. 5 seed Stockton at 6:00 p.m. Post Views: 1,360 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Gregg Snyder Latest posts by Gregg Snyder (see all) ITZ Staff Makes Super Bowl LV Predictions.
