No. 8 Georgetown tops No. 9 DePaul in Big East Tournament Opener

The Georgetown Hoyas defeated the DePaul Blue Demons 70-53 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Hoyas were led by D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera who tallied 20 points and three rebounds and Bradley Hayes who had 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Sophomore guard L.J. Peak also finished with 10 points and a rebound.

Eli Cain led the way for DePaul tallying 14 points and five rebounds.

With the win, Georgetown moves to 9-3 in Big East Tournament first round games.

“It feels a lot better than loosing man let me tell you that,” Georgetown head coach John Thompson said. “Being here in this city in this tournament, it feels good man it feels good.”

Georgetown will take on No. 1 seeded Villanova in the quarterfinal round Thursday at noon.
