Football Not Many Training Camp Position Battles For New York Jets This Year by Staff Post August 3, 2016 Darrelle Revis Training camp is finally getting underway in Florham Park for the New York Jets. It’s no secret that the Jets have a ton of talent on their team and are considered a “win now” team. Having a lot of talent is clearly not a bad thing, but it does create for a boring training camp. Although there aren’t many, there are still a few training camp battles to watch. Cornerback – Darrelle Revis will obviously take care of one side of the field. But the other is up for grabs after the Jets let Antonio Cromarti walk in free agency. The easy answer is Buster Skrine who was the primary nickel back for the Jets in his first year with the Jets. He also led all corners will 65 tackles last year. The other options are Dee Milliner and Marcus Williams. Milliner has struggled to stay healthy since being drafted 9th overall in the 2013 draft. While Williams has had a lot of success in his two years with the Jets including a team leading six interceptions last season. Outside Linebacker – Lorenzo Mauldin had an excellent rookie year with the Jets as he had four sacks and 19 quarterback hits. He is fully expected to start at one of the linebacker positions. Trevor Reilly is probably the frontrunner for the other outside linebacker position. Reilly played in 15 games last year and led the team with special teams tackles with 16. The other option is Freddie Bishop who had 11 sacks with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL last season. The last option is Jordan Jenkins who the Jets selected in the third round this year. Jenkins was a three year starter at the University of Georgia where he collected 19 sacks. Quarterback – It is no secret that Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starting quarterback this year and Geno Smith will be the first back up. But as of now, the Jets have four quarterbacks between Fitzpatrick, Smith, Bryce Petty, and Christian Hackenberg. The organization has said that they don’t mind carrying four quarterbacks even though it is a little unorthodox. Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg might have to battle it out for the third quarterback spot if the Jets decide to cut one. There aren’t too many intriguing training camp battles this year. But I view that as a good thing. That means the Jets can spend less time worrying about the personnel and more time preparing for the season.
