Women playing hockey, cool. Women getting paid to play hockey, amazing!

This past weekend the NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League) kicked off in Stamford, CT and Buffalo, NY, two major hockey towns. Up in Buffalo the party got started when “The First Women of Hockey”, Manon Rheaume, dropped the ceremonial puck. Rheaume was the first women to play in the NHL. In Stamford, the commissioner of the NWHL, Dani Ryan, dropped the puck.

Our New York based team is the New York Riveters, who versed the Connecticut Whale in game one. The Riveters fell to the Whale 4-1, the Whale celebrated their first win in front of a sold out crowd and Jessica Koizumi scored the first ever goal in the NWHL. Brooke Ammerman scored the only goal for the Riverters.
