Football NY Jets top offseason priorities as they try to build around Sam Darnold in 2019 by Guest January 23, 2019 The offseason is the perfect time to pick and build a team that can take you to the next Super Bowl, that has to be the aim for every team in the league. But, reaching the Super Bowl is not something that anyone can do alone. Sam Darnold is proof of that! He might be just 21 years old and a rookie quarterback but he’s already shown the potential to be part of that winning team. In fact, you’d like his Super Bowl odds based on his recent performances; particularly the game against Texas in mid-December 2018. There’s no doubt that he’ll need support if the Jets are to make it all the way in the next Super Bowl; perhaps it’s even time to look at the coaching team. Todd Bowles has missed the playoffs four years in a row. Here’s what else the Jets are going to need to focus on this offseason in order to reach the Super Bowl: Add a Playmaker Running back Le’Veon Bell is a free agent and an excellent choice to join the Jets as a playmaker. This is exactly what the Jets need to make the most of Darnold’s talents. The fact that Le’Veon Bell has spent the last season on the sidelines due to contract disputes will simply make him keener to prove his worth. Take a Look At The Receiver Quincy Enunwa was a great receiver and it’s possible that the Jets will look to resign him. However, it’s difficult to state that the Jets will have a top rated receiver; even if they look to take the Eagle’s Golden Tate. This is perhaps the biggest problem area for the Jets and their chances of the next Super Bowl. There simply aren’t any top receivers on the market and no promising new talent in the drafts. They may need to pull a rabbit out of the hat! Offensive You could easily argue that the offensive line is the biggest weakness of the current Jets team; it certainly struggled to support Darnold. Fortunately, there are a lot of good players likely to appear in free agency this offseason. Off course the drafts are offering Jonah Williams who has massive potential and could be just what the team and Darnold need. Defense Although generally okay there is still room for improvement in the defensive line-up. Nick Bolsa will be in the drafts and would be a great addition. If the Jets are able to get 1st pick and secure him, then the edge rushing problem they’ve suffered from will likely be solved. Alternatives include linebacker Josh Allen or perhaps Demarcus Lawrence. In short, if the Jets want to improve their game and have a real shot at the Super Bowl they need to boost the team; ensuring pressure remains on Darnold. This will allow him to perform to his best and take them right to the Super Bowl 54. It’s a challenge but one that can be achieved if the right picks are made this offseason.
