Football NY Jets Training Camp Battles To Watch by Staff Post July 20, 2015 With training camp right around the corner, there are a handful of position battles in training camp to watch. Cornerback – With Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromarti back with the Jets, they will clearly have two cornerback positions locked up. And since Buster Skrine was signed from Cleveland this offseason, and was given $13 million in guaranteed money, he will probably have the starting job covering the slot receiver. And there are plenty of capable cornerbacks after that. First, you have Dee Milliner, who showed improvement towards the end of his rookie season before tearing his ACL early in last year. There is also Marcus Williams who had some playing time last year and Dexter McDougle, who missed last year with a torn ACL. The Jets clearly have a lot of options here and it is always good to have depth on defense because injuries happen a lot. Running back – Chris Ivory will be the Jets’ number one running back this year as long as he stays healthy. And now that, Chris Johnson has left the Jets, his number two spot is up for grabs. It could be Bilal Powell, who was the Jets’ number three running back last year with 242 snaps. But he will have to beat out Stevan Ridley, Zac Stacey, and Daryl Richardson, who were all signed in the offseason this year. But right now, Stacey is rehabbing an ACL injury. So if he is not ready to go by the time the season starts, then he will probably be cut. But if he is ready to play, then the Jets front office has a decision to make. Guard – After signing James Carpenter in free agency, and giving him a guaranteed $5 million, it is safe to say he will have the starting job at left guard. After Carpenter, the Jets have many options starting with Oday Aboushi, who filled in for Brian Winters when he was injured last year. After Aboushi, another option is Jarvis Harris. The rookie has a lot of potential but he has to work hard to get there by the time the season starts. And who knows, maybe Willie Colon will come around this year? And Brian Winters will have to quickly recover from his injury to show that he can rebound from a tough start to his career. The Jets would have a lot of problems on the offensive line if none of these options pan out during training camp.
