Soccer NYC FC Defender Andres Mendoza Placed On Waivers Andre Mendoza has been waived by NYC FC. by Staff Post May 13, 2015 Andre Mendoza has been waived by NYC FC. (Reuters) Andre, we hardly knew you. Andre Mendoza, the Ecuadorian defender that was acquired in January after stints in the professional Ecuadorian league and CD Maldonado in Uruguay is gone on waivers. The New York City Football Club was excited to have the imposing 25-year old to bolster their defense. Yet without having played a single minute and the performance of NYC defenders this past Sunday against the Red Bulls, NYCFC is looking for defensive reinforcement to offset the lack of offensive output. One area they may be looking at is England where two American defenders are due to be on the free agent market in a month. Oguchi Onyewu, 33, is struggling in Carlton while Zak Whitbred was doing well in Derby County until the injury bug hit him again. Whether they are patient enough to wait for either of them they will have to find some solutions to stall the losing streak or risk conceding the competitive aspect of this first season of New York City Football.
