The New York City Football Club is hot right now. Four straight MLS wins and a rematch with the New York Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium this Sunday. NYCFC from the beginning has been fan conscience and so in the latest attempt to do extra for their fans they conducted an In-Store Team Autograph signing session at the Adidas Sports Performance Store at 610 Broadway in New York City.

On a rain filled, muggy day they came out in force and the players responded.

“Our fans have been great all year,” RJ Allen explained. “They are real special to us. They play a major role in this.”

Goaltender Ryan Meara agreed, “Events like this where you see the fans waiting in the pouring rain, if you come to our home games and see how passionate they are and we haven’t been winning yet until recently.”

The NYC crew came out in full force with stars David Villa, Mix Diskerud, and Josh Saunders in the group, the fans were able to run the gambit and get autographs from every player. Its something that brought back memories to Ryan Meara and his childhood.

“Growing up in New York, I used to go to the  MetroStars games in Giants Stadium, 10-15,000 in that big stadium,” Meara recalled. “So to see where soccer in New York was ten years ago to where it is now its incredible.”

The three teams in New York have created a great rivalry with many choices now for city fans of the global game. Whether recognized or not directly, the players are aware.

“We are all focused on our own teams,” Chris Wingert made clear. “But at the same time time its been an incredible atmosphere we’ve bern fortunate to play in.”

Starting goaltender Josh Saunders thinks along the same lines. “I’m not too concerned with it, only what NYFC is doing, Saunders responded. “Whatever the media is saying about rivalry, NYC, that’s the biggest thing to me.”

The NYCFC is becoming part of the city culture and events like this show the general enthusiasm. The derby with the Red Bulls will be important for the city team here in New York. RJ Allen said it best describing the expectations come Sunday.

“It’s going to be a fantastic atmosphere, that’s without a doubt,” Allen explained. “I think its time we have to deliver to our fans for sure. It’s time we return the favor.”
