Ladies and gentlemen, last night’s Yankees comeback against the Orioles may have been an early candidate for Game of the Year. It had everything you wanted in a game and more. The atmosphere was unreal. How do I know this? Simple: I was there.

Some backstory: I am a Mets fan who also loves to watch specific players from around the league perform. One of those players from last night was Manny Machado. I crossed a New York fan line to see one of the best players in MLB today. I got a lot more than I thought I paid for, which was fine by me.

Lets discuss some key points, shall we?

I went home happy with another great performance by Manny Machado, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI’s and one monster home run. Theme of the night: fans inside The Stadium saying he will be on the team in a few years. We’ll see if that comes true or not.

The main point: Going into the bottom of the 6th inning, the Yankees were down 9-1. Scoring a few runs might have been fine, but nobody expected what happened next. The Bombers stormed back, winning the game in extra innings 14-11. What I saw was one of the best regular season comebacks in quite some time. As an outsider I wasn’t disappointed or shocked (maybe a little of the latter), just impressed.

The home runs hit by both parties were legitimate; the short porch did not play a factor last night. Aaron Judge can attest for that. The young outfielder hit two rockets that might have split the air it traveled in in half. Starlin Castro hit a shot that tied the game in the ninth inning, putting the crowd in a frenzy. I’d also like to give the fans some credit: the majority of the announced 36,000+ stayed throughout the entire game. They got to witness a historic moment inside The Stadium.

With Matt Holliday at the plate, fans were on their feet. One specific fan in front of me would not sit down from the moment the Yankees had a shot at coming back. He could have been the heart and soul of the team. That man should be credited for staging the final at bat. A shot deep into the night by Holliday gave the Yankees the lead and the win. I sat there in awe as my Yankee friends went wild. I saw former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand smile and laugh at the same time. That seemed to be the only way to react to what just happened.

For the record, I am not switching sides to the Evil Empire. I will say this game could be one to remember as the season progresses for the Yankees. Their postseason chances could become a reality thanks to one crazy game in late April. The Baby Bombers thrived last night, clipping the Orioles’ wings. Whether or not they capitalize on this one game is up to them.
