Soccer Panama, Argentina Take Group D Lead On Day 4 of Copa America by Staff Post June 7, 2016 After day four of the Copa América tournament, Panama and Argentina are at the top of Group D. Panama v Bolivia 2-1 Panama kicked off the scoring early which eventually lead them to a 2-1 over Bolivia. Blas Perez took a strike that got past Bolivian goalkeeper Carlos Lampe after a pass from teammate Alberto Quintero in the 11th minute. Equalizing for Bolivia in the 54th minute, Juan Carlos Arce took advantage of a deflected ball directed his way and kicked it into the back of the net. Luis Tejada had an opportunity to give Bolivia the lead in the last five minutes of the match but was unable to capitalize from inside the Panama box. Two minutes after Tejada’s lost opportunity, Perez struck the ball into the back of the net to give himself a brace for the night and give Panama the victory. Argentina v Chile 2-1 This match wouldn’t see scoring until the 50th minute when Argentina’s Angel Di Maria connected on a ball played in by Ever Banega. On Argentina’s second goal of the match, the roles were switched. Di Maria played in a ball to Banega who drove the ball home. Chile’s deficit would last until two minutes into stoppage time when Jose Fuenzalida headed a free kick into the back of the net pulling Chile within one of Argentina. Unfortunately for Chile it was too little too late and Argentina held on for the 2-1 win. Argentina is now tied for first place in Group D with Panama.
