Paramus Catholic knocks off 4th seed Old Tappan 50-35

The Paramus Catholic Lady Paladins continued to roll along in the Bergen County Girls Basketball Tournament knocking off 4th seeded Old Tappan 50-35 in the quarterfinals at Becton High School in east Rutherford. Nyree Grant and Destine Hall led the charge scoring 13 point apiece. Ariana Chipolone poured in a game high 13 points for Old Tappan. The Lady Paladins will face number one seed Immaculate Heart Academy in the semifinals at Ramapo College on February 15th at 12:00 p.m.

“We have the confidence to take the ball to basket plus hit our free throws today” said Paramus Catholic Lady Paladins Head Coach Al Roth. “I can’t say enough how this team responds back every time,” added Roth.

Paramus Catholic broke the game wide open in the 3rd quarter going on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 30-20. Hall and Grant converted on three-point plays. The Golden Knights managed to cut the lead down to six point with 2:14 left in the 4th quarter but the Lady Paladins were able to hit their free throws down the stretch pushing the lead back to double digits.

The teams’ were tied 7-7 at the end of the first quarter but Paramus Catholic opened up the second quarter with a 8-1 run to lead 15-8. Old Tappan responded with a 5-1 run to trim the margin back to 15-13. The Lady Paladins answered back with a 7-0 run extending their lead to 22-13. The Golden Knights had the final charge of the first half going on a 7-0 run highlighted by a coast to coast layup by Emily Crevani making the score 22-20.
