Parkinson Gem Leads BlueClaws to First-Half Title, Playoff Spot

With a 4-0 win thanks to lefty hurler David Parkinson and a Kannapolis loss, the Lakewood BlueClaws will be entering the playoffs.  Parkinson struck out 11 and lowered his ERA to a paltry 1.07 which is best in the league.  Parkinson, now 6-1, was razor sharp as he only allowed three hits and didn’t allow any walks.

The BlueClaws bats got going in the third when Nick Maton managed an RBI ground out and Jake Scheiner hit his eighth dinger of the year.  Maton would get the most out of getting the bat on the ball again in the fifth with a second RBI groundout.

Rodolfo Duran went yard in the seventh for his seventh-round tripper of the year, putting the Claws up 4-0, which is how the game would end.

Lakewood finished the game with a pair of their All-Star relievers as Kyle Dohy and Addison (lights-out) Russ each threw a scoreless inning.

The BlueClaws will have six players representing the team at the All-Star game in Greensboro.  Jake Scheiner, Addison Russ, Kyle Dohy, Ramon Russo, Will Stewart, and Nick Maton earn the honors

After a slow start to the season, the BlueClaws record at the midway point is 41-28.  Their next game is Thursday versus Columbia on the road.

Kudos on a great first half of the season.
