Patrick Mahomes Joins Kansas City Royals Ownership

Mahomes recently became the NFL’s richest player after signing a 10-year contract that could be worth over $500 if certain bonuses are earned through performance.

Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl winning quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, has found a way to spend some of his recent fortunes. Mahomes is the newest member of the Kansas City Royals ownership group, the Major League Baseball club announced Tuesday.

Mahomes recently became the NFL’s richest player after signing a 10-year contract that could be worth over $500 if certain bonuses are earned through performance. While the Royals have not announced how much of a stake in the team Mahomes has purchased, the star quarterback is the youngest part owner in sports history at just 24 years old.

The Super Bowl MVP does have history in baseball. His father, Pat, pitched in the majors for 11 seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates. Mahomes played both football and baseball at Texas Tech, before deciding to focus solely on football after his sophomore year. He was a 37th-round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers in the 2014 MLB draft, but didn’t sign.

According to Forbes, the Kansas City Royals are valued at just over $1 billion. Patrick Mahomes is not stranger to business as he also has lucrative endorsement deals with major companies like Adidas, Bose, and Coca-Cola, among others.

The Royals last won the World Series in 2015 but have failed to reach the playoffs since. Mahomes should bring some excitement to the organization.
