Patriots Double Up Blue Crabs 8-4

91oliverwebWaldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (29-25, 67-57) doubled up the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (24-29, 50-73) 8-4 Thursday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Patriots clinched the series and finished 2016 with an outstanding 16-4 record against the Blue Crabs.

The game was delayed 95 minutes after the first inning due to rain, but Somerset starting pitcher Will Oliver remained in the game despite the lengthy delay.

“All these games down the stretch are important and I’m a competitor,” said Oliver who earned the win (4-2) as he tossed six innings and allowed one run. He has yielded three runs or fewer in 12 of his 13 starts. “The guys armed me with an early lead so that’s fun to work with a cushion. We had a good game plan to pitch the righties away with a short porch out in left field.”

The Patriots plated four runs in the first inning. Aharon Eggleston cranked an RBI double and Kyle Roller rocketed a three-run home run (8).

Zach Wilson launched a solo home run (16) in the second inning to cut the deficit to 4-1. In 19 games against Somerset, he finished with eight home runs.

The Patriots received RBI hits from Eggleston and Eric Farris in the top of the fifth inning to stretch the advantage to 6-1. Eggleston finished with three doubles which tied a franchise record for most doubles in a single game.

Farris cranked a two-run home run (6) in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 8-1.

Alfredo Marte would club a two-run home run (10) in the seventh and another run was plated on a wild pitch in the eighth for the Blue Crabs. 8-4 would be the final score.

Brian Grening (9-5) sustained the loss, surrendering four runs in one inning.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark on Monday, September 5th for a 6:05 p.m. game against the Sugar Land Skeeters.
