Baseball Patriots Drop Second Straight To Barnstormers by Somerset Patriots August 24, 2016 Bridgewater, NJ – The Lancaster Barnstormers (18-26, 53-61) defeated the Somerset Patriots (24-22, 62-54) 4-1 on Wednesday evening at TD Bank Ballpark. The Barnstormers took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Blake Gailen. Somerset answered with a run in the second inning on an error that tied the game up 1-1. Caleb Gindl hit an RBI double in the fifth inning that gave Lancaster the lead at 2-1. The Barnstormers extended the lead with two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Gindl drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly and Gailen’s RBI base hit gave Lancaster a 4-1 advantage. Brian Van Kirk and Vinny Zarrillo each had two hits in the loss. “We need to pick up some more clutch hits and right timing hits and the rest will take care of itself,” Van Kirk said. “I think it’s just baseball. On the road we were capitalizing on those situations. You have to be able to ride the roller coaster, but at the same time stop the bleeding and turn it back around.” Joey Maher (1-1) picked up the win, allowing a run on five hits in seven innings pitched. Donovan Hand (4-6) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Cory Burns earned his 20th save of the season. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues at home on Thursday night for a 7:05 pm game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
