Baseball Patriots Fall Just Short To Skeeters 6-5 by Somerset Patriots August 6, 2016 Sugar Land, TX – David Vidal slugged two home runs and Carlos Guzman tallied three RBI but the Somerset Patriots (14-15, 52-47) rally fell short as the Sugar Land Skeeters (18-12, 53-47) won 6-5 Saturday evening at Constellation Field. Vidal registered his second multi-homer game of the season. In 46 games, the slugger is now batting .348 with 16 home runs and 37 RBI. The 16 home runs are tied for the league lead. “I’ve never had a year like this where everything is going right. I’ve been fortunate to put some good swings on some balls,” said Vidal. “But at the end of the day, I’m here to win. I love to contribute. I wish I could have done more tonight. We have a good team.” Vidal cranked a home run in the first inning, but Ricky Hague countered with a two run home run (14) to give the Skeeters a 2-1 lead after one inning. Sugar Land would score the next four runs to grab a 6-1 lead after four innings. Travis Scott laced a two-run single in the third inning. Jeff Dominguez clubbed an RBI triple and an additional run came across via a throwing error. Somerset’s comeback attempt started in the fifth inning when Guzman laced an RBI double dwindling the deficit to 6-2. Guzman then blasted his first home run (8) since June 30th as his two-run shot made the score 6-4 in the seventh inning. Vidal brought the Patriots within one in the eighth inning as he mashed a solo home run, but 6-5 would be the final score. Aaron Thompson (7-3) earned the win, yielding two runs in six innings. Donovan Hand (3-4) sustained the loss as he surrendered six runs in 4.1 innings. Derrick Loop notched the save (24) pitching a scoreless ninth inning. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game on Friday, August 12th against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
