Patriots Outlast Skeeters 9-6 In 11 Innings

sept03FINALSugar Land, TX – The Somerset Patriots (29-24, 79-44) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (23-30, 59-64) 9-6 in 11 innings Thursday evening at Constellation Field.

 

In the top of the second inning the Patriots plated four two out runs to grab a 4-0 advantage. Second baseman Nate Spears slapped a RBI single and shortstop Robert Andino drilled a two RBI double. Andino later scored on a wild pitch hurled by pitcher Josh Geer.

 

Sugar Land got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning as first baseman Travis Scott socked a RBI single cutting the deficit to 4-1.

 

The Patriots added a run in the top of the seventh inning as third baseman Greg Hopkins drew a bases loaded walk to increase the lead to 5-1.

 

The Skeeters cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the eighth inning as second baseman Renny Osuna clobbered a two RBI double making the score 5-3.

 

In the bottom of the ninth inning Sugar Land rallied to plate a pair of runs to even the contest at 5-5. Catcher Chris Wallace hit a RBI ground out and pinch hitter Denny Almonte poked a RBI double.

 

Somerset scored four times in the top of the 11th inning to take a 9-5 lead. First baseman Matt Fields ripped a two RBI double and third baseman Greg Hopkins roped a two RBI single.

 

Center fielder Jeff Dominguez blasted a home run (3) making the score 9-6 in the bottom of the 11th inning which would be the final score.

 

Daniel Sattler earned the win (7-2). Robbie Weinhardt (1-3) suffered the loss.
