Patriots Pound Riversharks 9-2

july22FINALCamden, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (9-5, 58-25) defeated the Camden Riversharks (3-11, 31-53) 9-2 Wednesday evening at Campbell’s Field. This was the Patriots fifth win in a row.

 

In the top of the third inning Somerset scored three times to take a 3-0 advantage. Catcher James Skelton socked a RBI triple and two more runs scored on two different errors committed by third baseman Mike Costanzo.

 

The Patriots added a run in the top of the fifth inning as pitcher Zachary Clark hurled a wild pitch that plated a run making the score 4-0 in favor of Somerset.

 

First baseman Ryan Strieby slugged a home run (6) to get the Riversharks on the scoreboard at 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

 

The Patriots scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to increase their lead to 6-1. Designated hitter Nate Spears roped a RBI single while center fielder Vinny Zarrillo recorded a RBI via a fielder’s choice.

 

The Riversharks scored in the bottom of the eighth inning as right fielder Carlos Guzman laced a RBI double cutting the deficit to 6-2.

 

Somerset scored three insurance runs in the top of the ninth making the score 9-2. Left fielder Aharon Eggleston scored via a passed ball while both first baseman Mat Gamel and shortstop Robert Andino tallied RBI doubles.

 

Randy Boone earned the win (5-3) tossing six innings while allowing one run on five hits. Clark suffered the loss (2-5) allowing six runs on seven hits.
