Patriots Score 8 Runs In Last 3 Innings To Win 12-7

723farriswebLancaster, PA – The Somerset Patriots (9-7, 47-39) scored eight runs in the final three innings to outlast the Lancaster Barnstormers (6-10, 40-45) 12-7 Saturday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Every Patriots starter tallied at least one hit as Somerset notched its 27th come from behind win of the year. Of their last 11 victories, nine have been in come from behind fashion. Somerset improved to 8-1 at Clipper Magazine Stadium in 2016.

 

“This was a big time battle as both teams kept answering each other,” said catalyst Vinny Zarrillo, who finished with three hits and two RBI. “The key was for us to put a bunch of good at bats together in the eighth inning which we did. It’s fun to feed off each other.”

 

Lancaster scored twice off Randy Boone, who was making his 2016 debut, in the second inning. K.C. Hobson hit an RBI grounder while Charlie Cutler slashed an RBI single.

 

David Vidal picked up his 26th RBI in 33 games with a line drive single in the top of the third inning to trim the deficit to 2-1.

 

Blake Gailen, third all-time in Lancaster history in RBI, collected an RBI single in the ensuing half inning to increase the advantage to 3-1.

 

The Patriots took their first lead with one swing of the bat by Rob Kral as he cranked a three-run home run (2) in the top of the fourth inning.

 

The one run lead would be short lived as Cutler poked an RBI single in the home half of the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4.

 

Bryan LaHair laced an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to give the Patriots their second different lead at 5-4.

 

Lancaster stormed back in the ensuing half inning as they scored twice off All-Star reliever Brandon Sisk. Mike Jacobs banged into a double play to plate a run and Josh Bell socked an RBI single. The score was 6-5 in favor of Lancaster after seven innings.

 

With one out in the top of the eighth inning, Luis Mateo blasted a triple. Then on an 0-2 count, the next batter Zarrillo deposited an RBI single to even the score at 6-6. Two batters later Eric Farris drilled a go ahead two RBI double. LaHair would add an RBI single as Somerset’s lead was 9-6.

 

The Patriots scored three unearned runs in the ninth inning to provide insurance. The lead ballooned to 12-6. Two errors were committed by the pitcher Cory Burns

 

Caleb Gindl launched a home run (5) in the bottom of the ninth inning to make the score 12-7, which would be the final.

 

Sisk (3-3) earned the win, pitching one inning of relief. Ryan Dennick (3-4) sustained the loss,hurling 0.2 innings of relief.
