Baseball Patriots Strand Tying Run At 3rd To Hold On To 7-6 Win by Somerset Patriots May 28, 2016 York, PA – The Somerset Patriots (21-15) scored four first inning runs, but had to hold on and strand the tying run at third base in the last of the ninth as they snapped a four game losing streak by edging the York Revolution (21-15) 7-6 Saturday evening at PeoplesBank Ballpark. With the Patriots clinging to a one run lead in the bottom of the ninth and a runner on first base, Jon Hunton gave up a booming triple in the right-center field alley to Telvin Nash. Isaias Tejeda tried to score from first base, but was thrown out representing the tying run. The relay went from Carlos Guzman to Eric Farris to Yovan Gonzalez. The next batter, Andres Perez, grounded out to shortstop as the Patriots sealed the victory. “It was a great win, a much needed win,” remarked Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “Darin Gorski settled down nicely [retiring the final 11 batters he faced]. The bullpen all stepped up and we’ve just put together some solid at bats and I’m even counting from the loss last night as well.” 10 pitches into the game the Patriots had a 4-0 lead. Mycal Jones, Aharon Eggleston and Eric Farris all strung together first pitch singles in the first inning. Then Brad Snyder cleared the bases with a three run double. The next batter Matt Fields socked an RBI single. York responded with a two-run home run by Joel Guzman (6) to cut the deficit to 4-2 after one inning of play. Trayvon Robinson, hitting eighth in the batting order for just the second time this season after starting 24 games in the leadoff position, cranked a solo home run (4) to dead center field to boost the Patriots lead to 5-2. “I’m just happy to contribute,” the humble Robinson said. “I’m just blessed to be able to play the game I love. I told Jodie I don’t care where you put me. I just want to help us win and we needed this.” York evened the score at 5-5 in the second inning. Guzman blooped a two run single and Nash recorded an RBI sacrifice fly. Somerset regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Jones tallied an RBI single and Eggleston hit an RBI ground out. Jones has been red hot as of late. During his nine game hitting streak he is 18-for-35 (.514). James Simmons would stroke an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 7-6 which would be the final. Gorski (3-1) earned his second straight win, allowing five runs in five innings, but settled down after a rocky first two frames. Former Patriot Kelvin De La Cruz (3-4) suffered the loss, allowing a season-highs in runs (7) and hits (11) in 5.1 innings of work. Hunton notched his eighth save of the season. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark on Friday, June 3rd for a 7:05 p.m. game against Bridgeport Bluefish.
