79recapblogsBridgewater, NJ-   The Somerset Patriots (2-4, 44-32) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (3-3, 33-43) 2-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.

The Skeeters took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an error.

Somerset answered to tie up the game in the bottom of the frame on newly-signed Zach Racusin’s RBI double, his first professional base hit.

“I just tried to get a good pitch to hit and be a tough at bat,” said Racusin. “I kind of felt like I floated to second base. It felt different than most of the other hits I’ve had.”

Scott Kelly’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh put the Patriots in front 2-1.

Alfredo Rodriguez finished the game 4-for-4 for Somerset.

Lucas Irvine (5-2) got the win after allowing just one run on seven hits and six strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched. Trey Haley (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing a run in an inning pitched. Ronnie Shaban earned his fourth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.

“The team did a great job today. Luke threw the ball well and the bullpen did a great job of shutting it down. It was really a team win,” Racusin added.
