Uncategorized Patriots Take Series Over Ducks With 7-3 Win by Somerset Patriots July 31, 2015 Central Islip, NY – The Somerset Patriots (14-7, 64-27) won the rubber match of the series against the Long Island Ducks (8-12, 54-36) by a final score of 7-3 Thursday evening at Bethpage Ballpark. The game was delayed one hour and six minutes due to rain. In the bottom of the first inning center fielder Delta Cleary Jr recorded a RBI ground out to give the Ducks a 1-0 advantage. The Patriots grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning as designated hitter Thomas Neal and left fielder Vinny Zarrillo each tallied RBI singles while another run crossed by a wild pitch hurled by Darin Downs. Somerset scored three more runs in the top of the fourth inning as catcher Adam Donachie laced a two RBI double while Neal stroked a RBI single making the contest 6-1. First baseman David Vidal cranked a home run (3) in the top of the fifth inning to expand Somerset’s lead to 7-1 in the top of the fifth inning. Pitcher Daniel Sattler hurled a wild pitch that plated a run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Ducks as the score was cut to 7-2. Long Island tallied a run in the bottom of the ninth inning as first baseman Randy Ruiz scraped a RBI single making the score 7-3 which would be the final. Kyler Newby earned the win (7-2) as he tossed two scoreless innings of relief. Downs suffered the loss (0-3) lasting four innings as he surrendered six runs. Jon Hunton notched the save (25) recording the final out of the game.
