Football Philadelphia Eagles Journey to Super Bowl LII by Stephen Ur January 30, 2018 In 2016, Carson Wentz’s rookie season, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in blowout fashion to improve to 3-0. The Eagles were looking like a very hot team. Unfortunately, they weren’t hot after that. They would go on to lose nine of their final 13 games and would miss the playoffs at 7-9. In the off-season, Philadelphia acquired two star receivers in Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith to help Wentz out. They also acquired running back LeGarrette Blount from the New England Patriots. All of these moves, including acquiring a few key players on defense, made the Eagles look like a special team. Philadelphia Eagles Journey to Super Bowl LII That’s how the season went for them for the most part, as well. They got off to a 10-1 start and were the hottest team in the NFC. They weren’t the clear-cut favorites to win the NFC, however. The New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings all looked like teams that could challenge the Eagles for the conference crown. As for Wentz, he was looking like the clear-cut favorite to win the NFL MVP. However, in a win over the Rams in Week 14, Wentz tore his ACL rushing for touchdown. The NFC East champions [they clinched the division with a win in LA] had just lost the leader of their team. If they wanted to reach Super Bowl LII, they would have to rely on Nick Foles. Not many gave him a shot to even get out of their first playoff game. However, they would overcome all adversities. Philadelphia clinched the #1 seed and won the divisional round game against the defending champions Atlanta Falcons before defeating the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game. Now, they will face Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. The Eagles open up as underdogs [no surprise], but they are out to show the world what they are made of. Super Bowl LII will be played this Sunday, Feb. 4 at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN. The game will be broadcasted on NBC. Philadelphia will be looking for their first Super Bowl in franchise history. New England, on the other hand, will be looking to tie the record with their sixth title.
