Philadelphia Eagles Will Suffer Super Bowl Hangover

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII behind backup quarterback Nick Foles. Now, starting quarterback Carson Wentz is returning, they signed defensive end Michael Bennett, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and wide receiver Mike Wallace.

The Eagles look like they’re on their way back to the Super Bowl to all their fans. Unfortunately, they’re more likely headed for a big Super Bowl hangover.

In addition to making all of these signings, they released long-time tight end Brent Celek and the man behind their Super Bowl trick play, Trey Burton.

Dangerous Distraction

Not only that, but two of the signings they have made, Bennett and Wallace, are more distraction than they are help. Bennett has had continuous off-field issues. Wallace is more a diva than he is a receiver. He is known for making a scene on the sidelines and isn’t a top receiver anymore like he once was.

Ngata has also been on the decline since leaving the Baltimore Ravens. Last season, in five games played, he recorded just seven tackles. He is also returning from injury, which could be a factor.

Not only do their new players bring problems to the team. Their schedule is also one of the toughest in the NFL.

Tough Times Ahead

They kick off their season against the Atlanta Falcons, who added a huge threat at wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Their next two games are Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts. After that, things get a lot tougher.

They will have to face Marcus Mariota, Dion Lewis and the Tennessee Titans, Kirk Cousins and the powerful Minnesota Vikings defense, a New York Giants team making a turnaround, a talented Carolina Panthers team, the Dallas Cowboys, Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans, Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On top of that, Wentz is being way overhyped. Yes, he threw 33 touchdowns before tearing his ACL in Week 12, but look at what he did in his rookie season. Following a 3-0 start, he threw nine touchdowns in their final 14 games and they missed the playoffs.

We could very likely see that Carson Wentz in 2018 and that could bring them down. All these factors will lead to the Eagles missing the playoffs in 2018.
