CJ Sapong tied a Union record by scoring in his 4th straight game, a record he now shares with Jack McInerney, when he took a perfectly weighted flat ball from Sheanon Williams and deftly headed home from inside the box.

His historic goal was just enough for his Philadelphia Union side to win 1-0 decision for his side.

Sylvestre commanded his goal line well and made 2 saves en route to his 4th clean sheet of the season.

Sapong’s run was perfectly timed but in truth, the young attacker’s play was perfectly timed all night as he turned in a man of the match performance for Union.

The Union nearly doubled its advantage when Fred was played through perfectly but his attempt was saved by Stefan Frei who came off his line to make a great save.

The Sounders were shorthanded without suspended US International Clint Dempsey, but still fielded a strong side that included Lamar Neagle and Pappa.

The win marked the first time Philadelphia has beaten Seattle since 2011 and marked a measure of revenge for the US Open Final loss to the Sounders last fall.

The Union also bounced back from a terrible defeat to LA Galaxy at the weekend, and looked much more organized defensively as they kept the Seattle attacks to a minimum.
