College The Pirates face off against DePaul in the Windy City Tuesday Night After two consecutive victories, the Seton Hall men’s basketball team will travel to Chicago on Tuesday looking to split the season series with the DePaul Blue Demons. by Staff Post February 2, 2015 Seton Hall Athletics After two consecutive victories, the Seton Hall men’s basketball team will travel to Chicago on Tuesday looking to split the season series with the DePaul Blue Demons. The Blue Demons handed the Pirates one of their only two home losses this season as 23 points came from the bench to help defeat the Hall 64-60 in a tight contest. The Pirates go into this matchup on an offensive upswing as the team averaged 85 points in their victories over Marquette and Xavier. Junior Sterling Gibbs was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fifth time this season on Monday after tallying 46 points and 18 assists against the Golden Eagles and Musketeers. The victory over Xavier also brought the return of highly-touted freshman, Isaiah Whitehead, who ignited a season-high 90-point effort with 19 points off the bench. The Pirates improved to 10-2 with Whitehead in the lineup and look to continue to build a Tournament resume with the Brooklyn native back in the fold. Whitehead will be leaned on heavily Tuesday night as he will be tasked with guarding last year’s BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, Billy Garrett Jr. Garret Jr. is averaging 13.2 points per contest this season along with dishing out almost 4 assists per game as well. The 6-foot, 6-inch guard played a major role in the first matchup between both teams, he scored 14 points and provided a much needed spark to push DPU past the Pirates. The Blue Demons have dropped three-consecutive games since however, returning them to the .500 mark in BIG EAST play after an unexpected 5-2 start. Poor defensive play has caught up to DePaul in recent outings as DPU has allowed each of its last three opponents to shoot over 45 percent. Such play should be to the Pirates’ favor as SHU has shot almost 48 percent from the field in their last two games, as well as hitting 22-50 from beyond the arc. In the last contest between the two squads freshman center, Angel Delgado had a night to remember boasting 19 points along with pulling down 19 rebounds. The freshmen leads the conference in rebounds with 10.2/game in league play and he will look to rule the paint once again against the Blue Demons. Similarly to the Hall, DPU has played well at home as they hold an 8-4 record this season but, the Pirates will look to spoil the fun in the Windy City Tuesday night and earn their sixth conference victory this season.
