Piscataway Pulls Out Win against Monroe in GMC Finals

Tears were in the eyes of the Monroe players, while the Piscataway women celebrated their third consecutive Greater Middlesex Conference basketball title.

THIS IS R HOUSE!!! This is the slogan that Rutgers University for most of their sports teams. Piscataway High School is not far from the State University of New Jersey- Livingston Campus is located in the city of Piscataway.

Piscataway High School went up against Monroe High School on Thursday night at the Rutgers Athletic Center for the Greatest Middlesex Conference Girl’s Basketball Finals. Piscataway had won the past two GMC Finals, and were going for their third consecutive title. Monroe, on the other hand, was going for their first.

If I was asked to describe this game in two words, those two words would be nail biter. This game went down to the wire, just seconds after it looked like each team had it won.

Monroe was up at the end of the first, second and third quarters. Monroe’s Erica Junquet played some of the smartest and strongest basketball throughout the game. She played hard by taking the ball to the basket herself without passing to any of her teammates through several possessions. She also made bad plays into good plays. She turned a missed shot into a three-point shot on one play.

Monroe was up by five with just thirty seconds left, but Piscataway led a fierce comeback to tie the game at 62 with 1.5 seconds left with a layup. She also had a chance to win the game with a free throw, but the ball bounced in and out of the basket.

In the overtime period, Piscataway led the whole way. A failed fullcourt shot by Monroe ended their hopes at their first title. Tears were in the eyes of the Monroe players, while the Piscataway women celebrated their third consecutive Greater Middlesex Conference basketball title.
