Poland v Portugal – Betting Tips

euro 2016

The first game of the Euro 2016 quarter final stage is contested by Poland and Portugal in what is quite an evenly matched game in terms of ability on paper.

Poland didn’t quite meet expectations against Switzerland but still managed to get the job done (on penalties) eventually despite the Swiss really taking the game to them in the 2nd half. Portugal are in the quarter final stage of a European Championship yet again despite playing horrendous football at times. This has been a familiar trait of the Portuguese national team in the last 10 years or so and they always seem to get away with playing terribly.

Adam Nawalka will want his Poland team to show a bit more determination, grit and quality in this game if they’re to beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal otherwise it could be a long game for the Polish, he must also be very concerned with the lukewarm form of star striker Robert Lewandowski who hasn’t scored a single goal in the competition yet.

Fernando Santos on the other hand will be hoping that Cristiano Ronaldo brings his A game because if he does then Portugal usually win as do most teams that Ronaldo has played in. If Ronaldo doesn’t show up and neither does Lewandowski, it might be mildly entertaining watching the mere mortals play each other.

Its always best to have more than one betting account so you can easily compare the odds, if you’re stuck wondering which one to choose have a read over reliable betting site reviews to help you make an informed decision.

Outright Winner – Portugal

Like I said before, Portugal seem to play awfully but get away with it time after time. I can see that happening again here, Portugal riding their luck until late on when they complete yet another smash and grab.

Both Teams to Score – No

I can see this game ending 1-0 or going to penalties, I would be very surprised if this ended with both teams having the ball in the back of the net.

Correct Score – Poland 0-1 Portugal

Games involving Portugal are usually low scoring, with the exception of the game in the Group Stage against Hungary. Add to that the fact that Poland have not scored or conceded more than a single goal in all of their games so far and this should definitely be a low scoring affair. I’m backing Portugal to nick it 1-0 and book a place in the semi-final stage.

First Goal Scorer – Nani

All of the big money is going to go on Robert Lewandowski who hasn’t scored in these finals yet, or Cristiano Ronaldo, who admittedly is capable of scoring at any point during the game, but he rarely shows up for the big occasions for the Portuguese and I have my doubts he will score the first goal here. Nani has been in tremendous form for club and country this season and if you are to believe the Fenerbahce President then he has also managed to secure a move to Valencia for next season so it really would not surprise me if he bagged his 2nd goal of the tournament against Poland to send them through.

For fans in the area and want to find lodging accomodations for the game, Hipmunk has hotels in Marseille for as low as $56. Marseille has been a destination for many, so you’ll have a blast in the city itself and the football will be an added pleasure.
