College Princeton hires former UConn standout Carla Berube as Women’s Basketball Head Coach by Gregg Snyder May 30, 2019 When Courtney Banghart left to take the head coach position at the University of North Carolina, Princeton University was left with a pretty big void in their women’s basketball program. The Tigers have found their next program leader as the school announced Carla Berube as the next women’s basketball head coach. Take a glance at Berube’s resume and one thing stands out – winning. Berube comes to Princeton after 17 years as head coach at Tufts University. Under her leadership, the Jumbos went 384-96 in 17 years, an 80 percent winning percentage. During that time, Tufts reached the NCAA Division III final twice, the Final Four four times, and the Sweet 16 nine times (including each of the last eight seasons). Last season, Tufts went 28-3, winning the NESCAC Championship and reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. She is a three-time regional coach of the year and in 2015 was named the Pat Summit Trophy winner as Division III National Coach of the Year. Under Banghart, Princeton has won seven Ivy League Championships in the last 10 years. The Tigers have reached the NCAA Tournament eight times in the past ten years. The two years they missed the Big Dance, the Tigers participated in the WNIT. Princeton returns plenty of star power in two-time Ivy League Player of the Year Bella Alarie and first-time All-Ivy League honoree Carlie Littlefield. Berube is a 1997 UConn grad where she scored 1,381 points during her collegiate basketball career. In her four years at UConn, the Huskies were 132-8. She was a member of the 1995 National Championship team. After her collegiate career, Berube played professionally in the American Basketball League. A member of the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and New England Basketball Hall of Fame, Berube has also coached internationally with USA Basketball.
