Former Eastern High School star, Tom Flacco, is leaving the Western Michigan football program and returning to New Jersey and transferring to Rutgers. After sitting out the 2017 season due to transfer rules, Flacco will have two years of eligibility remaining. He spent two years as the backup QB for the Broncos under head coach PJ Fleck, a former Rutgers assistant coach. Fleck is now the head coach at Minnesota.

Flacco is the younger brother of Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Joe Flacco.

The news was first reported by popular podcast, “Pardon My Take.”

At Western Michigan, Flacco appeared in 13 games. During his freshman season, he completed 10 of 12 pass attempts for 188 yards and a touchdown. He only attempted one pass last season, but did appear in special packages offensively, rushing for 266 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries.

The move adds depth to the quarterback room for the Scarlet Knights and head coach Chris Ash. His versatility could be an asset to offensive coordinator Jerry Kill’s system. Flacco will compete with Gio Rescigno and Johnathan Lewis as well as any incoming freshman in 2018.
