Quinnipiac defeats Marist by 30 to win third straight MAAC title

The Quinnipiac Bobcats are dancing in the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season after they defeated Marist in the MAAC Championship game 81-51 Monday afternoon at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York.

The Bobcats, who have won their last 43 regular season conference games, saw four members of the starting five finish in double-figures. All-MAAC Second Team selection Jen Fay erupted a double-double. The senior guard finished with 25 points and snagged 13 rebounds. She shot 5-of-11 from the floor and hit five three-pointers.

The defensive stronghold limited the Red Foxes to single digit scoring in the second and fourth quarters where they allowed nine points in each.

Quinnipiac bested Marist in nearly every statistical category and were unfazed by anything the Red Foxes threw at them. Not even a season-high scoring day from All-MAAC Third Team selection Grace Vander Weide could throw them off. The redshirt junior finished with 25 points and was the lone player to finish in double-digits for the Red Foxes. Alana Gilmer returned to the lineup for Marist after missing the semifinal game against Rider on March 10 and scored nine points and had a pair of rebounds in 26 minutes of action.

The Bobcats stayed locked in on every possession and scored 28 second chance points. Their defense limited Marist to a combined eight field goals and one three-pointer in the second half.

Quinnipiac’s NCAA tournament fate will be revealed on March 18 at 7:00 pm during the selection show on ESPN.
