Hockey Rangers Sign Draft Picks, Nieves and Fogarty by Staff Post March 30, 2016 Steven Fogarty (courtesy of Fred Kfoury/Icon SMI) The New York Rangers signed two of their big draft picks this week to entry level contracts. Cristoval Nieves, also known as “Boo,” the Rangers’ second round pick in 2012, and Steven Fogarty, the Rangers’ third round pick in 2011, are now officially under contract with the club. The two were rivals on the ice in college — Nieves played for the University of Michigan and Fogarty played for Notre Dame — but now they’ll be trying to work together to earn a spot in the National Hockey League. Nieves had over 20 assists in three of his four college seasons in Ann Arbor and set personal records this season while helping Michigan earn a Big Ten title. Fogarty’s numbers increased every season while in South Bend while tying for fifth in goals and being sixth in assists his final college year. Fogarty was also the captain of the Fighting Irish.
