The beginning of a very interesting offseason got underway today for the New York Rangers when they officially traded the negotiating rights to highly coveted defenseman Keith Yandle.

The Florida Panthers agreed to send the Rangers a sixth round pick in the 2016 draft and a conditional fourth round pick (depending on if Yandle signs with them).

For the Rangers, this is a move that they would not have wanted to make unless they had to and with little to no money to work with they simply could not afford to resign Yandle and thus got some return on him.

Handle, who the Rangers traded Anthony Duclair for back in the 2014-15 season, had a successful, albeit short, tenure with the Blueshirts. He had 58 points in 103 games including a 42 assist tally in 82 games this past season.

Yandle and the Rangers came within one win of going to the Stanley Cup Final in May of 2015.
