MMA Ray Borg v. Brandon Moreno moved to UFC 223 in Brooklyn Two potential title contenders will battle in out in Brooklyn by Daniel Yanofsky February 2, 2018 A bout that could determine the future of the UFC’s flyweight division has been moved. Ray Borg will face Brandon Moreno at UFC 223 in Brooklyn. The UFC announced the move after the fight was taken off the UFC Fight Night 126 card due to a Moreno injury. During a practice, Moreno (14-4) suffered a second degree tear in the muscle of his right elbow. It was hyperextended enough to keep the fight off of the card, but not enough to cancel the fight altogether. Moreno won 11 straight fights before losing to Sergio Pettis in the main event of UFC Fight Night 114. A win by the 24-year old from Tijuana can potentially bring him closer to contending for the Flyweight Title. Speaking of the title, his opponent, Ray Borg (11-3), is coming back from an epic title fight against current champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC 216 in October. In a bout that went back and forth, Johnson ended the fight in the most dramatic way possible. DJ hit a flying armbar onto Borg, who submitted in the fifth round. Before that, Borg won two in a row and five of his last six fights. With rumors of a Johnson v. T.J. Dillashaw bout growing each and every day, both fighters come into UFC 223 to prove to Dana White why they should be considered next. For Borg, it’s a chance at redemption. For Moreno, a win by the young gun could shock the world. As a result, a title shot could be in his future. UFC 223 takes place on April 7th inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The main event features a Lightweight Championship bout between Tony Ferguson and challenger Khabib Nurmagomedov. The co-main event features Rose Namajunas defending her Strawweight Title against Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
