It’s probably time for New York teams to avoid Kansas City teams for a while. The Red Bulls followed up the Mets’ opening day blues against the Royals by dropping a tough game themselves at Red Bull Arena to Sporting Kansas City.

Despite losing the game 2-0, the Red Bulls actually played pretty well.

They held a lot of the ball, created some good chances, and even had a penalty kick that was unfortunately saved. The loss dropped the team to 1-4-0 on the year, certainly not what they expected following last season’s success.

However, despite the loss, there were some positive notes in other areas. Luis Robles played 90 minutes for the 111th match in a row, just one 90-minute game behind Kevin Hartman for most consecutive 90-minute games played in MLS history.

And with his appearance in the loss, Dax McCarty passed Carlos Mendes on the Red Bulls all-time-games-played list and is now alone in third with 147 appearances.

Also, in an incredible show of support, the Red Bulls provided a dedicated quiet zone in the crowd for supporters with autism to enjoy the game as a part of Autism Awareness Night.

The Red Bulls next play on Wednesday at 10:30pm in San Jose on MSG.I
