Soccer Red Bulls Part of Big Summer Tournament The Red Bulls will take on Chelsea on July 22. by Staff Post April 30, 2015 The New York Red Bulls will be involved in the now yearly tradition of the International Champions Cup. While it’s basically just a glorified group of friendly matches it still is good for the Red Bulls as they get to measure up against some of Europe’s finest clubs. The Red Bulls will take on Chelsea, the soon-to-be champions of the Barclays Premier League, on July 22 and F.C. Porto, currently second in the Primeira Liga in Portugal, on July 26. There will be a third match held in Red Bull arena when Paris Saint-Germain play Fiorentina on July 21, but the Red Bulls are not involved. The other teams involved in the competition are the Los Angeles Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes, Club America, Barcelona, and the defending champions Manchester United. This is a big opportunity for the Red Bulls to make a statement on an international level as they get a chance to not only go toe to toe with some of the biggest names in the sport but a chance to become the first MLS team to win the tournament. The previous two winners have been Real Madrid and Manchester United, which goes to prove that even though this is their pre-season warm up, the big clubs still take it seriously. As we get closer to the tournament, which begins July 11, there will be more information to be passed along.
