Neil Walker (NJ.com) If Mets fans have learned anything, it’s to not believe any trades with the Brewers until it’s made official. After all, that’s what turned Wilmer Flores into an accidental icon. So be cautious to the latest news regarding another possible trade by GM Sandy Alderson. According to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, second baseman Neil Walker is heading to Milwaukee. Neither teams have confirmed the news yet. In an interesting bit of information, Sandy was watching Walker hit during batting practice before informing him of the news moments before today’s game against the Phillies. The Yankees were originally interested before backing out due to medical concerns. Neil Walker’s time with the Mets has had many highs and many lows. Traded by the Pirates in exchange for Jon Niese in December 2015, Walker did well for the Mets but his overall play was marred by injuries. From back surgery to a hamstring injury, the road has not been the smoothest for Walker. The Mets did offer him a $17.1 million qualifying offer this year. This season, Walker is hitting .264 with 10 home runs and 36 RBIs in 73 games. In 186 games played for the team he hit .275 with an OPS of .806 and slugged 33 home runs. Walker will look to get back some of his power back inside Miller Park. His overall numbers there do look promising. httpss://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/896499593176911872 The move, when made official, could finally give Gavin Cecchini a chance to shine in the big leagues. All the moves Sandy has made has enhanced the vision of a youth movement. It is unknown what the Mets would be receiving from the Brewers, but the move for the latter was needed. While in the hunt for contention, Milwaukee has been struggling to keep pace with the rest of the NL Central. The Mets on the other hand are keeping their attention focused on 2018. UPDATE: Moments after the Brewers game ended, Sandy Alderson spoke to the media regarding the deal. Walker and cash was sent to the Brewers for a player to be named later.
