Feature Rex Ryan Proves he Still Doesn’t Get it Ahead of Jets vs. Bills Showdown by Jayson Love November 10, 2015 from pennlive.comRex Ryan was fired ahead of the 2014 season by the Jets, an brings his Bills into the Meadownlands this week. When Rex Ryan arrived in New York in 2009, he was seemingly, exactly what the organization needed. When he proclaimed that he “wasn’t here to kiss [Bill Belichick’s] rings” , he ushered in a new era of Jets football that wasn’t playing second fiddle to New England, and little brother to the Giants. The team even played its home games in Giants Stadium, a constant reminder of who was the premier team in New York. But Ryan didn’t accept that fate and his teams found initial success with a pair of AFC Championship Game appearances. However, as the losses piled up in subsequent seasons, his Jets consistently found themselves not only second fiddle to the Patriots and little brother to the Giants, but the laughingstock of the league. Unfairly? Of course. There were worse teams, there were immature players on other teams, there were embarrassing losses, but the target was on the backs of the 53 members of the New York Jets. Why? Because Rex Ryan placed the target on their backs. Even though Ryan attempted to deflect pressure from his players, all the bravado, the flair, the showmanship, made every Jets’ story national news, and motivated other teams take their best shot at New York. And with Rex’s latest decision to make IK Enemkpali, the man who sucker punched Geno Smith in training camp, one of Buffalo’s team captain ahead of his Bills’ massive division game showdown with the Jets on Thursday; he placed the target squarely on his team again. But this time, it is the Buffalo Bills bearing the pressure. Any chance the Jets would overlook this game, or come out as flat as they did against Oakland 2 weeks ago is now pretty much out the window. Don’t be surprised to hear players on New York talking about a “little extra motivation” postgame should the Jets take down the Bills on Thursday.
