Round of 16 Bergen County Boys Basketball Jamboree

(7) Cresskill, 65 (10) Hackensack, 52 – Matt Flood poured in a game high 27 points while Sean Kelly contributed 20 points as 7th seed Cresskill defeated 10th seed Hackensack of the Round of 16 Bergen County Boys Basketball Jamboree at Tenafly High School. Ahmed Bailey led the Comets with 18 points while Michael Richardson chipped in with 15 points.

“We got the two buzzer-beaters which were a huge momentum shift,” said Cresskill Head Coach Mike Dotto. “We always preach to the team to finish the quarters on a strong note.”

Flood canned buzzer-beating 3 pointers at the end of 1st and 2nd quarters to spark the Cougars. Up 43-37 early in the 4th quarter, Flood drained a trifecta increasing the lead to 46-37. Back to back layups by Zac Garcia helped expand the margin to 50-39 with six minutes left.

(2) St. Joseph(Mont.), 61 (15) Tenafly, 42 – Number 2 seed St. Joseph(Mont.) opened the 3rd quarter with a 10-0 expanding its lead to 39-21 en route to a 61-42 drubbing of 15th seed Tenafly in the Round of 16 Bergen County Boys Basketball Jamboree at Tenafly High School. Nate Garvey pumped in a game high 26 points along with an emphatic dunk in the 1st quarter that brought the crowd out of their seats.

Tenafly went ice cold from the field not scoring their first basket until three minutes left on a three-pointer from Amit Yona. Yona delivered a game high 12 points for the Tigers.

“A hard fought victory where our kids played very well,” said St. Joseph(Mont.) Head Coach Michael Doherty” “We worked very hard on defense which gave us some opportunities that paid off.”

(8) Ridgewood, 66 (9) Dwight Morrow, 37 – 8th seed Ridgewood raced out to 23-8 first quarter lead and coasted to a 66-37 victory over 9th seeded Dwight Morrow in the Round of 16 of the Bergen County Boys Basketball Jamboree at Tenafly High School. Brendan Kandel tallied a game high 20 points for the Maroons while Jonathan Davila netted 14 points and Quin Peene scored 13 points.

“It was more of our defense that offense today as we did not run that much,” said Ridgewood Head Coach Mike Troy. “We beat Dwight Morrow on fast breaks and in transition.”

(1) Don Bosco Prep, 65 (16) Mahwah, 33 – The number one seeded Ironmen outscored 16th seed Mahwah 19-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a commanding 36-19 halftime lead. Omar Mostafa dropped in 13 of his game high 20 points in the first half. Lonnie Rivera chipped in with 11 points.

“When we brought our two guards in Pat Dorilas and Amanie Craddock our defense intensity really turned up a notch and led to transition points,” said Don Bosco Prep Head Coach Kevin Diverio. “We did not let up in the 2nd half and focused to play for 32 minutes.”
