College Rowan University Softball season ends in Oklahoma City by Carly Vadinsky May 25, 2018 The Rowan University Profs find their 2018 season coming to a close in their second game in Oklahoma City. Yesterday, Illinois Wesleyan handed Rowan their first lost to place the Profs in an elimination game against the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University. Starting pitcher Jesse DeDomenico took the loss for Rowan, putting her season record in the circle to 23-8. Meanwhile, for the Spartans, sophomore starting pitcher Alyssa Hamilton pitched a complete game keeping the Rowan offense quiet to earn the win. The eight inning game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Case Western Reserve University broke open the scoring to take a 1-0 lead off of two hits and a fielders choice to cause a run to cross the plate. Rowan did not produce the timely hitting they relied on all season, as they left seven runners on base through the coarse of the game. In the top of the sixth, Freshman designated player Kelly Duffy went yard for a solo homerun to even the scoreboard 1-1. In the top of the eighth, Dedomenico led off with a double, but the profs could not find a way to move her around to score. In the bottom of the eighth, the Spartans led off with a walk followed by a hit by pitch to put runners on first and second with no outs. Grace Tritchler hit a shallow pop up that dropped in between centerfielder Kristina Mueller and short stop Carly Anderson. Marren Waldner advances from second to home on the play, coming in to score for the win in walk off fashion. DeDomenico went 3 for 4 at the plate while Kelly Duffy finishes 1 for 4, scoring the only run for the Profs. Kim Wilson and the Prof’s long lasting season finally comes to an end, as they finish with an overall 39-13 record.
