College Russo Picked For Elite 11 Finals Rutgers commit selected for Elite 11 Finals by Staff Post June 11, 2015 After a solid showing at the Elite 11 semifinals this past weekend in Los Angeles, Ca., Rutgers quarterback commit Anthony Russo received an invitation for the Elite 11 Finals. The prestigious competition will be held July 5-11 at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. Notable Elite 11 Finals alumni include Andrew Luck, Mathew Stafford, Jameis Winston, Matt Leinart, Geno Smith, Troy Smith, Teddy Bridgewater among others. httpss://twitter.com/Elite11/status/608771850194313216 Russo is one of 18 finalists that will compete for the highly-coveted spot in the Elite 11, and is already recognized as one of the top passers in the recruiting class of 2016. In 2014, the 6-3, 225-pound signal caller threw for 1,551 yards and 22 touchdowns in a run-based pro-style offense. His skills created a more multiple offense. The three-star recruit guided his Archbishop Wood squad to a 14-1 record (4-0) and the PIAA AAA state championship. Barton Simmons of 247sports.com, ranked Russo as the No. 2 quarterback in the 7on7 competition on Sunday and he liked what he saw. “I actually thought Russo was one of the more inconsistent quarterbacks on air on Saturday but when it mattered nobody looked more confident or in command on Sunday.” Russo finished 6-6 with two touchdowns during his 7on7 sessions. Simmons also noted the Pennsylvania native was calm and collected when it was time to do his best. “Russo looked like he was in total command from the first snap to the last during his 7on7 session,” Simmons said. “His first ball was a decisive rope to an outside curl route. He went on to march down to the goal-line methodically and then patiently got to his second read where he delivered a strike for a touchdown. Russo then came back with a new set of downs and had the patience to shake off a broken slugo only to find a backside seam for a touchdown.” While Russo faced an up-hill battle going up against other highly-touted quarterbacks in Los Angeles, and landing a spot in the finals, Russo will go toe-to-toe with national recruits in Oregon.
